We collect samples from any material suspected of containing asbestos in the areas you specify for testing. According to DEP guidelines, we gather at least three samples per material type, as determined by the inspector’s discretion. Typically, lab results are available within two days after the samples arrive at the lab, with an option for expedited analysis at an additional cost.
Bulk sampling helps determine asbestos content in building materials. A small portion of the material is carefully extracted and sent to an accredited lab for microscopic analysis. Following DEP standards, a minimum of three samples is collected per suspected item. Results are usually available within two days, with rush analysis available if needed.
We offer complete asbestos testing. This is for the safety of everyone involved. Asbestos will float throughout the area and can attach to clothing and enter people’s houses. If the building has asbestos, there is a significant chance that countless people will be affected, especially when building demolition is involved. If a test is not performed first, this could be detrimental to a lot of people’s health.
Why is Asbestos Testing Needed?
Asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) are commonly found in older homes, schools, and commercial buildings. While asbestos is generally safe when left undisturbed, any renovations, repairs, or damage can release harmful fibers into the air. Asbestos testing helps identify these hazardous materials, ensuring safe removal or containment before they pose a health risk. Testing is especially crucial before renovations or if you suspect asbestos-containing materials are deteriorating.
Materials Containing Asbestos
Types of Asbestos Exposure Tests
Friable Asbestos
Friable asbestos refers to materials that can easily crumble or break down into powder by hand. This type poses a higher risk as it can release harmful asbestos fibers into the air, which can be dangerous when inhaled. Common sources include sprayed insulation, pipe insulation, and soundproofing materials.
Non-Friable Asbestos
Non-friable asbestos is more stable and less likely to release harmful fibers into
the air. It is typically bonded with other materials, reducing the risk unless disturbed or damaged. Common examples include asbestos cement products,
vinyl floor tiles, and roofing felt.
Chrysotile: White Asbestos
Chrysotile, commonly known as white asbestos, is the most prevalent type, accounting for 90-95% of asbestos found in buildings. Its flexible, curly fibers made it a popular choice for roofing, ceilings, and tiles due to its fire-resistant properties. While considered slightly less hazardous than other asbestos types, long-term exposure can still lead to serious health risks, making proper testing and safe handling essential for protection.
Tremolite Asbestos
Tremolite asbestos, often found as a contaminant in chrysotile and talc, contains sharp, needle-like fibers that can cause severe lung diseases when inhaled. Although not commonly used in construction, it may still be present in insulation, paints, and sealants. Professional testing is crucial for detecting and safely managing tremolite exposure.
Asbestos Testing Process
Preparing The Work Area
We create a secure and controlled work area to prevent asbestos fibers from spreading to other parts of your home. This includes sealing off the workspace and utilizing negative air pressure systems for maximum safety.
Extract and Contain the Sample
Our specialists use advanced tools and techniques to carefully extract samples, ensuring precision
and contamination-free results. Each sample is securely contained to preserve its integrity
during transport for accurate analysis.
Cleaning
After extracting samples, our team performs a meticulous cleanup, eliminating any potential asbestos debris and ensuring the area remains safe and contamination-free.
Lab Asbestos Testing
The collected samples are sent to a certified laboratory for in-depth analysis.
Within 4-7 days, we provide a detailed report outlining the presence and concentration
of asbestos, along with expert recommendations for next steps.
Next Steps
If asbestos is detected, we provide comprehensive guidance on the safest course of action, whether it's removal or containment to prevent exposure. Our team follows strict safety protocols and industry standards to protect your health and minimize risks. We ensure a thorough and effective asbestos management plan, creating a safer environment for you and your loved ones.
